We often read in the media of unlawful arrests and sometimes victimisation of people by the South African Police Service, Metro Police and other law enforcement agencies. People arrested are often locked up until their court appearance without bail being considered, while they were eligible to be released on bail at the police station by officers and/or standby prosecutors.

The problem is that the man on the street doesn’t necessarily have immediate access to a lawyer, not to mention a lawyer skilled in criminal litigation.

LAWYERSOS provides that service to arrested persons. A subscriber to the service will have access to an intelligent panic button on their cell phone which connects them to the lawyer sos call centre. The call centre receiving the distress signal will then call the subscriber and confirm the need for a criminal lawyer. The call centre will then dispatch an approved lawyer to the relevant police station to assist the subscriber and if possible to apply for bail. The lawyer will be at the police station within 3 hours after the arrest.

The subscriber will have to pay the lawyer a capped fee of R 2 000 for this service. Thereafter, the subscriber may appoint the lawyer to assist further in the case or choose another lawyer.

LAWYERSOS is also skilled to provide a claims administration and litigation service for the public against the road accident fund. This service will include the management of the claim for a subscriber after an accident. If needs be, an investigator will be appointed to obtain the relevant information to prove the claim. Documents will be collected from hospitals and so forth, necessary to lodge a claim with the fund on behalf of the subscriber. Thereafter the claim will be pursued until settled. If needs be, a summons will be issued and the claim pursued in court on behalf of the subscriber. No legal fees will be charged to the subscriber and no deductions will be made from the settlement amount received by subscriber.
